Stars: 4 / 10

Overall, an ok "whodunit" slasher/thriller. (*see below for further comments) I wasn't "wow'ed", but it did keep me guessing. Never scary, but sometimes creepy, with good plot twists.

Low budget gore effects and poor sound quality as is typical of 70's films. A bit lazy from the continuity department: the story takes place in 1961, but there are several period costume and car goofs.

* My biggest complaint, and it is quite LARGE, is one scene shows actual abusive handling of a kitten. The several seconds of meanness were cut from the original UK video release, because it violated their (stricter) animal cruelty laws. The scene has been reintroduced into the uncut DVD re-release.  Although the rest of the film was ok, I will NEVER watch this movie again because the rough handling of the kitten was just too disturbing and upsetting. There is NOTHING entertaining about watching a kitten being phycially abused, emotionally traumatised, and possibly seriously injured. I realise that the laws and standards about animal abuse were different then than they are now, but it is not an excuse for throttling and throwing a baby cat in the name of entertainment... no matter when it was filmed.

(And by the way, there was no mentioning of this on IMDB, under the violence/gore section of the film info. If I'd known, I wouldn't have watched it in the first place.)
